Adelaide to Darwin in a Maverick Falcon 17DL
We couldn’t think of a better way to test one of our newest models – the Falcon 17 – than by hitting the road from Adelaide to Darwin! A 3 week journey to test this caravan on the open road and find out whether this latest design feels like home.
Let us start by introducing ourselves….
Matt Winen (the Founder and CEO of Maverick Campers) and Karina Winen (his wife and partner in crime/travel) along with our energetic 4 year old Hudson in tow.
Upon bringing the caravan home to pack, Hudson immediately declares that the bottom bunk is his cubby house and loves how cozy it is – the caravan already gets his tick of approval before we’ve even left the driveway!
We had planned to set off from Adelaide at lunchtime on Friday, however a couple of delays set us back. The first was that we noticed that the front of the caravan was sitting a little low – so we had to purchase a new tow tongue to ensure the caravan was level. This is important to ensure safer towing and safer braking. With that being fixed, we were excited to head off – until the RAM wouldn’t start as we’d left the Starlink plugged in overnight. Rookie mistake! Once we had waited for the battery to charge, we were finally able to set off!
We stayed overnight in Port Broughton to visit family and then today at lunchtime we made our way to Glendambo. We travelled through Crystal Brook (unfortunately missing the open hours of the delicious Kupsch bakery!), Port Augusta, Pimba (to fill up with fuel) and then arrived at Glendambo just after sunset. Hudson was excited to see sheep, goats, lizards and one emu already – and the adventure has only just begun!
