Katherine
We stayed at the Katherine Farmstay for 2 nights and what fun it was! This is a real working farm and every day at 3:30pm the kids (and adults!) can help with feeding the animals. There were emus, cows, goats, a camel and pigs to feed and all of the kids loved it! We also got to watch a crocodile being fed and they have rabbits, lizards and snakes on display.
While in Katherine, we visited the Cutta Cutta Caves which were simply stunning. It was a great way to escape the hot sun for an hour – the weather felt like it was getting hotter by the day!

We enjoyed Katherine Gorge by boat – doing a “Timeless Land Three Gorge” cruise tour. It was a wonderful way to enjoy the picturesque gorge and our tour guide shared lots of interesting information along the way – plus we got to spend an hour swimming there, which was a highlight.
We also enjoyed a refreshing swim in the Katherine Hot Springs. The water was the perfect temperature and the area was filled with lush trees and palms – super relaxing. We spent almost 2 hours there, both in the upper pool where the water came up through the ground and at the bottom pool where the water was flowing quickly.
It would be hard to pick a favourite thermal spring between Bitter Springs, Mataranka and Katherine – they were all similar but had different features. We met many people on our path who would give us their opinion as to which one was the best and told us not to bother with the rest. However we wanted to visit them all to decide for ourselves and we’re glad we did – they are all worth a visit!
